Fateful words were spoken this weekend, they were short and to the point – “You know, the shires are on the hook for Fall Coronation 2012.” That sentence would dominate my quiet points for the weekend, that sentence being statement of intent – my home group will be submitting a bid.

It never occurred to me to say ‘I’ll run bar’ or ‘Ooh, I’ll be reservations steward.’ I think the first thing I said was, “Fall? A German feast could be fun, I’ve never cooked a German feast before!” Today starts the look into period sources, there aren’t any commercially printed primary cookbooks that I’ve found so far but I haven’t looked all that hard yet. Right now I’m at the base starting point – I have a focus for recipe trials and a general seat amount in mind for the feast. I haven’t decided yet how many dishes I’ll serve, I know it’ll be between 11 and 15 generally speaking – time to decide that later.

I still haven’t cooked a Neapolitian feast either so that’s my back-up in case I get bored part way through with the German. I already have Cuoco Napoletano by Terence Scully so I have a nice translation to work from there. I have ten months before I need to be set in stone which will translate to plenty of time to experiment. You’ll see a bunch of that here.
