Welcome to Andalusian Cook – this blog started out as a cooking blog with heavy Medieval Andalusian and Persian cooking and it mutated from there to include everything from my family tree to my opinions on tea.

As a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), the Andalusian cook is known as Nadrah .  Nadrah bint Valizan al-Garnatiyya is a 13th C. Andalusian woman formerly from the city of Granada.  She is the adopted daughter of a much-beloved Sheikh and is married to a Faroese merchant. She devotes much of her time to her studies when she’s not looking after them.  A Pelican of the Court of Trumbrand I and Kaylah I, Nadrah currently lives in Ealdormere northern wilds – in the shire of UIfheim.

Nadrah is the Society for Creative Anachronism persona of AJ Richards.  A love of baking was nurtured by my grandmother and my mother encouraged experimentation.   My family is one of adaptive cooks – cookbooks serve as templates, not rigid guidelines.  Recently, I was diagnosed as being gluten intolerant and have had to embrace a gluten-free lifestyle.
